Carbon dioxide stunning, also known as controlled atmosphere stunning, is a method used in slaughterhouses to render animals unconscious before they are killed. This method is often used for pigs.

In this process, animals are exposed to a high concentration of carbon dioxide () which causes them to lose consciousness. The use of carbon dioxide is permitted in certain cases despite some opinions on its aversiveness for animals.
