Bear baiting involves pitting dogs against bears in a cruel and brutal display for entertainment and sometimes gambling. Mortality and injury are severe to both bears and dogs, which are involved in the fight. Injury is the spectacle in this event. If the dogs do not attack, and the bear does not defend itself, then there is no spectacle.
