The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is a membership Union uniquely composed of both government and civil society organizations. It works in the field of nature conservation and sustainable use of natural resources, involved in data gathering and analysis, research, field projects, advocacy, and education. By harnessing the experience, resources and reach of its more than 1,400 Member organizations and the input of some 15,000 experts, IUCN is the global authority on the status of the natural world and the measures needed to safeguard it. IUCN's mission is to "influence, encourage and assist societies throughout the world to conserve nature and to ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable".
