A group of 5 orcas were captured on February 26, 1979 in Taiji, Japan.

One female, later known as Chi, was immediately transferred to the Taiji Whaling Museum with two others; Benkei and Tai.

In June 1979, Chi died due to unknown causes after only 4 months in captivity.
