The Control of Trade in Endangered Species Regulations 2018 are UK regulations that enact the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES).[1] They consolidate and update the existing legislation on the enforcement of CITES in the UK.[1] These regulations require permits to sell or display certain animals that are listed in the Annexes of CITES.

These regulations came into force on 1st October 20182. The term “acquired” in these regulations refers to a specimen that has been taken from the wild or the point at which it was born in captivity or artificially propagated.[1]
