World Lion Day is an annual international observance dedicated to raising awareness about lions (Panthera leo) and the conservation efforts needed to protect these magnificent big cats. It is celebrated on August 10th each year.
Lions are iconic and charismatic animals that once roamed across much of Africa, Asia, and Europe. However, their populations have significantly declined due to various threats such as habitat loss, poaching, human-wildlife conflict, and disease. As a result, they are now classified as a vulnerable species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
World Lion Day aims to highlight the importance of lions in ecosystems, promote their conservation, and educate people about the challenges they face. It's an opportunity to engage in activities such as educational programs and social media campaigns to spread the message of lion conservation.
