The aim of animal welfare is to promote the humane treatment of animals and to reduce their suffering, while still acknowledging that some level of use of animals by humans is necessary for various purposes.
- Animal protection: advocating for the legal recognition of animals as sentient beings with their own inherent rights, and opposing any form of animal use or exploitation, such as animal testing, animal agriculture, and animal entertainment.
- Veganism and animal-free lifestyles: promoting plant-based diets and lifestyles that minimize harm to animals, and encouraging others to do the same.
- Animal rescue and sanctuary: providing care and shelter for animals that have been abandoned, abused, or neglected, and advocating for their adoption and proper care.
