What is WikiAnimal?
WikiAnimal is a wiki website focused on the animal kingdom. It is an online platform that allows the animal enthusiast community to collaboratively create, edit, and organise content. The term "wiki" comes from the Hawaiian word for "quick" or "fast," reflecting the quick and easy nature of editing and updating wiki pages.

The 3 main components of WikiAnimal
WikiAnimal is composed of three open source software platforms: MediaWiki (the same as Wikipedia), HumHub and FreshRSS.
The Wiki
The is the primary part of the platform and works in the same way as Wikipedia. However, it is not part of the Wikimedia Foundation and not an official WikiMedia project. MediaWiki (the software that run this part of WikiAnimal) is free and open-source and is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License version 2 or any later version.
