In November 1979, four whales were captured in Iceland. They were transferred to the Hafnarfjordur Aquarium where their health was assessed, genders determined, and only 3 received names; King, Keiko, and Caren.

King was soon sent to Hansapark Sierksdorf in Germany, as part of the Traveling Dolphin Show before being sent to Marineland Ontario for a number of weeks until his final transfer to Kamogawa Sea World.

It is believed that both Caren and the unnamed female were set for Japan, though the unnamed female died before her transfer, only to be replaced by King.

Several training sessions later, both King and Caren were performing daily shows at Kamogawa.

King died on October 4, 1983 due to Pneumonia after just 3 years at the park.
