On October 25, 1976, a young male orca was captured in Medalland Bugt, Iceland. Later known as Kim, he was the first whale to be captured in Iceland after marine parks were barred from capturing whales in Pacific Northwest waters.

Kim was kept at Hornafjordur Harbor before being purchased by Marineland Antibes in France. He became the main attraction at the park before a female named Betty joined him in 1978; both seemed to get along well.
