Algonquin was a male orca born on December 18, 1999, at Marineland Canada. He was the fifth calf of a female orca named Nootka V and was sired by Kandu VII. Algonquin’s birth took place in the newly built tank complex called Friendship Cove.
He had a curious and friendly nature, which made him less inclined to perform for audiences. Algonquin formed a bond with his half-brother, Hudson, who was just one year older.
On August 13, 2002, Algonquin was found lifeless at the bottom of the tank. The cause of his death was determined to be a twisted intestine.
