More than 50 pilot whales stranded on a beach in Scotland's Isle of Lewis, resulting in the largest mass stranding in decades. Despite attempts to refloat some of the whales, more than a dozen of them died. The Scottish Marine Animal Stranding Scheme (SMASS) will investigate the cause of the incident by examining the whale bodies.
