Bella is a female beluga whale who lives in a barren tank with concrete walls and artificial rocks on the lower floors of a South Korean mega mall.[1] She was believed to be around two years old when she was captured by boats in Russian waters in 2013.[2] Bella was one of three beluga whales that formed a popular public attraction at the Lotte World Aquarium in Seoul. However, the other two whales, Belli and Bellu, died in 2016 and 2019 respectively.[3] In 2019, Lotte World Aquarium pledged to release Bella, but as of 2024, she remains on display.[3]
