CAWF was co-founded by Chris Platt and Lorraine Platt. Chris is the present vice president of a Surrey Conservative Party Association and the former Chairman. He worked in international finance before moving full time onto the board of the Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation. A joint parliamentary reception was hosted by former Secretary of State for Defra George Eustice MP on 18 October 2023, where CAWF and other leading charities and NGOs called for the UK Government to deliver the provisions of the dropped [[Animal Welfare (Kept Animals) Bill]]. The bill contained measures to end live exports for slaughter or fattening, ban the import of puppies and kittens under six months, and make dog theft a specific offence. | |||
