Junior was a orca who lived in captivity at Marineland Canada.
In November 1984, a group of five orcas was captured in Iceland and transported to the Hafnarfjordur Aquarium, where they were held until they could be sold.
While three of the whales were purchased within the next year, two young males, named Junior and Kandu VII, remained. They stayed at the aquarium until they were eventually sold to Marineland in Ontario, Canada. Junior, likely first housed in Marineland's indoor pool known as the "warehouse," was later moved to a larger pool alongside Nootka V, Kandu VII, and Kiska.
Junior's training progress appeared to be subpar, leading to his relocation back to the warehouse in 1990, where he was put up for sale. Despite efforts to find another facility interested in acquiring him, Junior remained confined in the warehouse, devoid of natural sunlight and fresh air. His sole companions in this bleak environment were several dolphins.
In June 1994, Junior died due to brain damage after enduring over four years of isolation in the warehouse.
